2014 SEPF

Picture
The 2014 Southeastern Piano Festival was a week-long festival, held between June 15 and June 22 at the University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC. I was one of the twenty pre-college pianists who took part in a rigorous program that included daily lessons with USC piano faculty and masterclasses with the world-renowned guest artist Leon Fleisher. The week's events culminated with the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition.  There were also nightly concerts by a rich lineup of world-class pianists!

It was an awesome week, and I learned so much from my classes with such experienced artists- even the other kids were an inspiration to work harder!

I was first to play in Mr. Fleisher's masterclass. I played the 2nd and 3rd movements of Beethoven's Sonata op. 81a ("Les Adieux"); the fact that I'd left out the first movement became a bit of a joke amongst us!
The day before he left, he sat outside the recital hall at this table, signing countless CD's, programs, and books. Luckily for us pianists, we got to skip the long line and talk to him directly!

Here are all the kids who attended SEPF this year. We always sat together in this corner of the hall.
